Art Association of Harrisburg's FUNKY TOWN

Funky Town will be THE place to be on Saturday, February 6, 7 PM to midnight for The Bal Masque at Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg! When you get off the elevator at the Brewery‘s Abbey Bar, you’ll be stepping through a time-warp, right back into the 1970’s...Under the big disco ball, the “Saturday Night Fever” lighted dance floor will reflect logos of sponsors throughout the evening, lava lamps will glow on the tables, and a big screen will show a live-feed of the evening’s action.
In the Gallery, the exciting silent auction will offer all kinds of great themed gift baskets such as restaurant , hotel and theatre packages, jewelry, a Cabot Cheese assortment, a certificate for Segways of Hershey, and even a guitar! Dr. Edwin North, the Bal’s popular resident psychic, will do readings throughout the evening, and a raffle will be held to win a weekend at a “Funky Cottage” on Silver Lake.
The menu, in keeping with the “Funky Town” theme, will offer such delicacies as “Caffeine Jolt Grilled Chicken Bites,” “Vegetarian Baked Bean Fritters,” “Chocolate Trout,” and “Coconut Beer Batter Spam with Raspberry Horseradish Sauce”!
Back by popular demand are “Midnight Spaghetti and the Chocolate G-Strings” as the dance band, and “The Gadjo Playboys” as the Gypsy Swing musicians in the Gallery area. Chris Garrett will be the emcee.
The Art Association is partnering with Goodwill Industries this year by holding a clothing drive in conjunction with the Bal Masque. And with the “Funky Town” theme, where better to acquire costumes for the Bal than at a Goodwill Store! In the Harrisburg area, Goodwill Stores may be found at 627 Cameron Street, 5420 Jonestown Road, and 182 Engle Rd., in Elizabethville.
The Bal Masque originated in the 1940’s as a true “artists’ ball,” and has continued as the region’s premiere Mardi Gras celebration ever since. The Bal is the Art Association of Harrisburg’s major fundraiser, as well as a great party, benefitting the AAH classes and exhibition program. Underwriters for the 2010 Bal include Pinnacle Health, Crabtree Rohrbaugh, Lamar Advertising, Lehman Volvo, The Harrisburg DID, Capital City Mall, The Hall Foundation, Fry Communications, Quandel, and WHTM-TV, Media Sponsor.
Tickets are $45 for open seating, and reserved seating is $65. Visit www.artassocofhbg.com to purchase tickets online, or call 717-236-1432.
